From Instagram to Morocco – Let’s Do This!
“I’m 29, and I wanted to learn a new skill, it had been so long since I’d done anything like this. I took art classes and even went to art academy about eight years ago, but I stopped early. I felt the need to reconnect with it, so when I found you on Instagram, I thought, ‘Yes, let’s book this and go!’ It wasn’t just the sketching that felt new, the trip was to a country I’d never been to before. Everything, the surroundings, the culture, the people – felt like an exciting, fresh experience.”

More Than a Workshop – It Felt Like Family
“I can’t believe how much we accomplished in such a short time, it felt like a whole month packed into days. I’ve always loved art but never had the chance to learn seriously, as I pursued engineering instead. Alán’s question on why we sketch and why we don’t helped me realize how perfectionism and self-doubt were holding me back. This workshop pushed me to let go, sketch quickly, and embrace creativity without overthinking. Beyond the art, meeting people from such diverse backgrounds who shared the same passion was incredible. By the end, we felt like family, sharing techniques, journeys, and vulnerabilities. It was even better than I imagined, truly precious.”

Morocco Sketch Trip is all About Slowing Down, Creating, and Connecting
“In October, I joined Alán Ramiro’s urban sketching retreat with SeetheLines in Morocco, and it was an unforgettable experience. Traveling with a diverse group of creatives, all united by our love for art, was incredible. Sketching together in such a vibrant setting created instant bonds and allowed us to truly absorb the environment.

Urban sketching made me slow down and see Morocco in a whole new way. Instead of rushing from sight to sight, sketching made me focus on the details, the colors, textures, and movements around me.

Alán is an incredible teacher with a relaxed, open style that makes learning feel natural, whether you’re a beginner or experienced. His laid-back approach, embracing spontaneity, made the workshops fun and low-pressure.

I usually prefer sketching in private, but Alán encouraged us to sketch in busy spots, like the bustling squares and medinas of Marrakesh. At first, it was intimidating, but it turned into one of the best parts of the trip. People would stop, watch, and start conversations, making it an incredible way to connect.

This retreat was one of the most inspiring and fulfilling experiences I’ve had, blending art, culture, and real connections.”

I recently did a week-long sketching trip in Spain hosted by Alan, and it was hands-down the best gift I could have given myself. We explored Córdoba, Sevilla, and Jerez de la Frontera—each place rich in history and inspiration. I learned so much, not just about the art, but also about the culture and the incredible people I met along the way—people I wouldn’t have crossed paths with otherwise and truly hope to stay in touch with. Despite some unpredictable weather, Alan always found a way for us to make the most of each day. Whether it was finding a dry spot to sketch or chasing a quick burst of sunshine, we made it work—and those spontaneous moments added to the charm of the experience. The workshops were fantastic. I gained new skills in sketching and watercolor, and more importantly, a shift in perspective. I learned to let go of perfection, to be less precious with my work, and to enjoy the process more freely. It was empowering and deeply fulfilling. I can’t recommend this trip enough. If you’re considering it—do it.

I joined the Aires del Sur trip last March, and it was an incredible experience! After nine years as a freelance concept artist, I had begun to feel that drawing had become little more than solitary screen time and endless Zoom calls. This workshop reminded me of the joy of sketching outdoors, surrounded by an amazing group of people from all over the world. The rainy weather added a touch of adventure to the trip, but we also enjoyed beautiful sunny days, and every location was absolutely stunning. We sketched the charming streets, castles, and cathedrals of Andalusia, painting our own memories of the trip. Alan guided us through his process step by step, sharing useful tips and teaching a fast, practical approach to perspective and composition, making them accessible to artists of all levels. Meanwhile, Jorge from Pinceladas de España made sure the entire experience was comfortable and fun, giving us a true taste of Spanish culture, cuisine, and history (and sherry! 🍷) It was an inspiring and unforgettable trip, and I’d love to join another in the future!

Best USK trip ever! Incredible experience sketching around Morocco with Alán! Not only was it a trip for learning basic and advanced notions of urban sketching, but also a trip to remember thanks to the group that attended the workshop, with whom we created a beautiful friendship. Alán is a nice, patient, and funny person; you can tell he loves what he does. He is confident and transmits good vibes. His theories motivated me to draw without fear, I feel I gained more confidence in myself thanks to his encouraging words. Thank you, Alán! :)

The urban sketching workshop in Portugal was a great mix of time spent sketching, good instruction, as well as exploring and experiencing wonderful towns in Portugal. Well organized with great accommodations and side trips, like sailing on the Tagus river in Lisbon. Had a great time with a fun group!

Aires Del Sur Trip Such an amazing experience that truly exceeded expectations!! Alan Ramiro did a great job intertwining his workshops into the scenery of southern Spain and was able to give me the push I needed to try new methods! As someone who never sketched and rarely painted, Alan’s workshops made the idea of urban sketching so much more accessible! I was also privileged to have spent the week traveling with such a great group of people and am grateful for such an unforgettable experience organized by Jorge from Pinceladas de España. I already can’t wait for my next adventure with See the Lines!

Just book it! My trip to Morocco for an artist workshop with SeeTheLines and Alan Ramiro was a journey that I’ll treasure forever. Alan’s background in architecture brings such a unique perspective to sketching; his eye for structure and detail is remarkable. The principles he taught me are already influencing my work, even though my focus is so different (wildlife art). This trip was also a journey of self-discovery - I came back changed, with a fuller heart and a fresh perspective. If you’re anything like me, you might hesitate to choose yourself, and making this choice to invest the time and money into something that doesn’t feel “necessary” is a bit daunting. But I’m here to tell you - just book it. Do it for yourself, and trust that you won’t regret it. This workshop wasn’t just a creative endeavor; it became one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Beyond the art, the friendships we formed on this trip are priceless, and our amazing guide, Mustapha from Roaming Camels, made every moment unforgettable. Mustapha treats you like family and shares his country with such warmth and authenticity. This was so much more than a workshop—it was a reunion of kindred spirits. I’m counting down the days until our next adventure with SeeTheLines, Mustapha, and all of us attendees who can’t wait to be back together. Just book it. Trust me. You’ll look back on this as one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.

Meanwhile in Morocco Besides being talented, Alán is very patient, funny, and curious about the world. Traveling with him for 9 days in Morocco has been a wonderful experience, not only as far as my drawing skills are concerned, but also talking and laughing with him and the rest of the group. it's clear that he takes great pleasure in sharing his knowledge with his students, who end up becoming his friends.

This adventure was not only great fun but full of discovery. Alan provides wonderful tutorials for the group, sitting on our stools in some odd spot, totally absorbed in what we were doing. Mixed with exploring the environment, the cities the countryside, and, a real bonus, linking with other group members. The WhatsApp group gave us a great opportunity to build some connections before the retreat, and keep them going afterwards. I’m thinking about which retreat I might be able to join next!

Alan’s recent sketching workshop in Andalusia was a magical experience. The three cities we visited offered fabulous sketching opportunities and challenges, with ornate cathedrals, castles, gardens and vibrant street scenes. The eclectic group of sketchers were mutually supportive and inspiring. Alan’s teaching was practical and very helpful. But most importantly, his joy for sketching was inspiring and infectious. I am so glad to have had this experience.

I attended the five-day workshop in Prague with Alán and David. It was a perfect combination of architect-sketching and watercolor painting. Since one and a half year I take perspective lessons with Alán and I also sketch in USK-groups in my country and have attended workshops at USK-symposiums. Both have a structured way of teaching and we learned to see the subject with their eyes and had sketching and painting demos in beautiful locations. The group was great and was very motivated. There was a good energy to connect, learn, be in the flow and enjoy what we were doing with kind, mindful and great teachers. I enjoyed the company of the teachers and the group very much and I'd recommend it further even when you are a beginner. I had a great time with everybody and the city has endless nice spots to draw in your sketchbook. The flow and good energy of these five days keeps me motivated back home.

Sketching Morocco I didn't know what to expect when I booked this trip to Morocco with Alan and a group of international strangers. I was so intimidated and scared as this was my first time flying overseas! All I knew is that I had a loud voice in my head that kept telling me to just go! Little did I know that this would be one the most, if not the most wonderful trip of my life. Sketching the streets of Morocco with Alan and an amazing group of artists brought me closer to my inner self in ways that I did not know I needed. Alan is a wonderful artist and instructor that welcomes people from all skill levels and backgrounds, he made me feel secure and like I belonged there as an artist. His ability to understand where we were all at, and what we needed to work on in order to get better at our practice made us feel seen and encouraged. He will hold your hand while you're still learning, and will challenge you when you're ready for it. He created a respectful environment for us all and every day was an enriching experience that I will never forget. The logistics were also amazing and seamless, as a person that had not traveled overseas before I felt very safe during the entirety of the trip. If you have an itch for adventure and a craving for art you're at the right place wherever Alan goes next! Thank you Alan!

The morocco chapter Although not exactly my style of painting,I embarked on this 9day sketching trip to Morocco with Alàn and a bunch of real nice guys to find out what it's like sketching outdoors on holiday Alàn is a very humble and patient teacher who answered all my questions and gave me some really good tips re this type of art. Whether you practice or don't practice any sketching, Alàn makes you feel confident and relaxed and the outcome is that you get addicted to sketching as I am now and I can't wait to join him on another trip and make new friends from all over the globe. If you're healthy , love art, enjoy the outdoors and wondering where your next holiday will be, look no further and join Alàn on his sketching trips around the world. No matter how old you are, Alàn welcomes everyone and makes you feel at home.... I know .... I'm in my seventies.. Thank you Alan, you're my 6th star

This 10-day retreat in Morocco wasn’t just about sketching—it was a chance to challenge yourself, dive into a vibrant culture, and connect with a creative community. There were definitely moments I sat in front of a scene and questioned my skills—but you can’t twiddle your thumbs while everyone else is sketching. You just start… and THAT’S the magic. Did I love every sketch I made? Nope. But I LOVED every minute of the experience. I loved showing up for myself, pushing through doubt, and learning in the moment. Watching Alan work was incredibly helpful—but the learning didn’t stop there. You naturally absorb tips, techniques, and little gems from everyone around you. If you’re craving a travel experience that fuels your creativity, I can’t recommend Seethelines enough. This Morocco trip was the perfect mix of artistic growth, cultural richness, and genuine connection. By the end, one quote kept echoing in my mind: “You don’t have to be great to start… but you have to start to be great.” – Zig Ziglar If something in you is craving change, inspiration, or adventure—start here!!!

This is one of the most fabulous experiences I’ve had I my life! I had my reservations before the trip: I am a linguist so I don’t have any experience sketching. I rarely travel in groups and I never share a room with a stranger. However, Alán’s personality and his approach to sketching attracts an amazing type of individuals that made this experience simply fantastic. I made significant progress in just a few sessions, I discovered some fabulous locations, and I met talented like minded people that really enriched my life. This trip goes beyond simply learning sketching techniques. It’s about making connections, it’s about exploring our inner self, and it’s about learning how to see the wonders of the world and capture them on paper. I cannot recommend this experience enough! Thanks for once in a lifetime experience, Alán!

I joined the Aires del Sur painting workshop held in Spain this March 2025. It was a great opportunity to meet sketching enthusiast from different countries [US, France, Italy, Germany, the Philippines and Spain] and from diverse backgrounds. I am very new to urban sketching and I often get intimidated especially when confronted with a very complex vista. Alan Ramiro helped me “see the lines’ as a way of starting sketching and painting. He is very friendly and approachable, and readily responds to questions from the participants, which is important for urban sketching newbies like me. The workshop was designed to combine art, culture and culinary adventures so we all bonded over sketching sessions in beautiful architectural and historical sites in Sevilla, Cordoba and Jerez de Frontera, while enjoying the region’s marvelous cuisine. Jorge Lloret of Pinceladas de Espana and his father were very accommodating, and were very generous with art supply freebies.

Alan and his local guide, Luke, put together such an amazing trip. It wasn’t just about the workshops — we also got to explore so many different cities and places, which made the whole experience all the more special. I really feel like I gained confidence in my sketching and watercoloring throughout the week, and could actually see myself improving thanks to Alan’s guidance. One of my favorite parts was getting to chat with others in the group about their process and how they approach their own sketches — it was so inspiring to learn from everyone.

I joined Alán's workship trip to Morocco, and it was better than I could've hoped for! I hadn't tried urban sketching before this trip, but Alán is an excellent teacher, and quickly taught us the fundamentals that we applied throughout our sketches on this trip. It was the perfect combination of art, seeing the sights, and some downtime to relax. It was special getting to see this beautiful country with like-minded people; how often can you walk around and point out a shadow to a friend and talk about the interesting color of it? I travel a lot, but it was different this time, with other artists. Seeing the beauty in small things, down narrow alleys or outside cafes, then taking the time to sit down and really appreciate and draw them made me appreciate where we were so much more. I can really see the improvement in my sketching in only nine days. It's wild what a little consistent practice in a place with ample inspiration can do! Our group was fantastic, and I am sure I made some connections that will be lifelong friends :)

An absolute treat for the soul! I experienced a week long, group sketching retreat with Alan in Morocco, and my heart cannot be more full. The trip was the perfect mix of structured workshops focused on artistic technique, and free time to relax and explore (or ‘frolic’, as Alan would say!). I’m so grateful that I was able to be a part of such a unique experience. I polished my sketching and painting skills, and I developed genuine, deep connections with like-minded individuals from all over the world— people who I never would’ve crossed paths with otherwise! The trip was full of art, architecture, delicious food, and new friends. Unforgettable!

Morocco Sketch Trip is all About Slowing Down, Creating, and Connecting In October, I had the chance to join Alán Ramiro’s urban sketching retreat with SeetheLines, and it was incredible. Imagine exploring Morocco with a group of creatives from all around the world—people from totally different backgrounds, but all connected by a love for art. It’s amazing how quickly you bond when you’re out there, sketching together, and just soaking up the experience.. One of my favorite things about urban sketching is how it forces you to slow down and really look around and take it all in. Normally when you’re traveling, you’re rushing from one “must-see” spot to the next, snapping photos and moving on. But with sketching, you actually sit there and notice every little detail—the colors, textures, how people move. It totally changes how you see a place, letting you soak it all up in a way that’s so much more real. In my opinion, Alán is an incredible teacher. He has this super chill, open approach that makes his classes feel natural and accessible, whether you’re a total beginner or, like me, a more experienced sketcher. He’s all about going with the flow, embracing serendipity, which took the pressure off and made the workshops really fun! Normally, I tend to tuck myself away in a quiet corner, sketching where no one can peek over my shoulder.... But on this trip, Alán encouraged us to dive right into the heart of the scene—like setting up in the middle of a bustling square or in the medina in Marrakesh, where everyone’s watching. At first, it was a little intimidating, but it turned out to be one of the best parts. People would stop, watch, and start conversations. People are naturally curious when they see someone sketching, so it was an amazing way to connect, especially for an introvert like me, it's a great conversation starter. This trip will stick with me forever. It was honestly one of the most inspiring and fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had—mixing art, culture, and real connections.

I had the pleasure of meeting & taking Alán Ramiro’s workshop for the 1st time this past weekend at Belvedere Castle in Central Park. He guided us through the illustration of the castle. It was truly amazing watching how he made the castle come alive on paper! I did not know what I was doing in the beginning but he gave me one on one instruction which helped with the process. At the end, I was pretty happy with my illustration as a beginner. Alán is incredibly talented, kind, & I love his style. I am looking forward to taking more workshops with him!

My second trip Wow! ...Again! I am an alumni and this is my second travel sketching tour with Alan. My previous trip was Morocco and this time we explored Portugal. From lisbon to porto. Each place had its character, color and sketch-worthy charm. I was surrounded by like minded artist from around the world with such positive good vibes. This trip felt like a real turning point in my urban watercolor journey. I pushed myself more with an open mind, tried new techniques and had a few "aha" moments that changed how I see and sketch. It wasn't just about art- it was about connection, growth and soaking in the beauty of every crooked alley and sunlit plaza. The accommodations, private group transportation, museums, local city tours were all in perfect flow thanks to Alan and Lukes excellent trip itinerary.

I now feel inspired and motivated to actively engage in urban sketching. Alán Ramiro, the artist, is not only incredibly talented but also warm-hearted, and his course truly demonstrates his mastery. This course is truly distinctive in the art world, and it has also been a delightful experience filled with laughter beyond the workshops. Thank you for providing such a valuable and enriching learning opportunity! Jorge from Pinceladas de España ensured the trip was seamless with his excellent organization and entertaining dad jokes. I was drawn (no pun intended) to the SeeTheLines workshop for its destination, Morocco. What could be more interesting and exciting than sketching and painting in Morocco. I was not disappointed! Alan Romiro is an adept artist/instructor in architecture and perspective. He developed a workshop with interesting drawing locations. I am very inexperienced with the concept of perspective, but Alan took time to work with me and explain how to work through my difficulties. The company hired to handle arrivals, location transports, and departures is 1st rate. Living/sleeping accommodations and restaurants are excellent as well. The overall trip is very well organized with plenty of free time to explore on your own. We were a group of 14 varying in age and experience. We bonded immediately and had an AMAZING time.

This trip was incredible! Traveling around to all the diverse and interesting sights in Morocco with other artists from around the world is an adventure I will never forget. I feel like I learned so much from Alan’s workshops. He has a way of teaching watercolor techniques so that they are easier to comprehend in his step by step process while we were sketching on site in many different diverse locations. If you are on the fence about booking one of his trips, do it! You won’t regret it.

I knew about Alan’s sketching workshop in NY Central Park literally last minute and was happy to join the group. Alan is an amazing artist and a brilliant tutor. Such an inspiration! I was able to slow down in the middle of busy Central Park. It's like those scenes from the movies when the protagonist stays still and people on the background rushing here and there. It was THE experience!

I had a great 1-day-workshop in Vienna with Alán and I learned so much! For the first time in my life I mastered perspective and I understand now how to get the whole motive on my paper. Thank you so much, Alán! Now I feel ready to conquer the city with my sketchbook. :)

This is a phenomenal group of diverse talented artists with amazing backgrounds with a passion for drawing and sketching. Alán has created a community that lifts our skills to another level thanks to his will to connect and communicate through drawing and sharing. His guidance and advice help us develop a sketching style of our own respecting the principles of observation, identification of values and colors, proportion, perspective, scale, contrast, etc. His lessons are full of tips and techniques and they are shared in a very professional, respectful manner. His organized travel sketching adventures are unbelievably inspiring and enriching. They are a unique way to explore new places, to meet wonderful people and to develop your drawing skills. I strongly recommend joining this group whether you are a confirmed urban sketcher or not. You will never regret it!

Five star review online, five thousand in my heart! Sketching around Morocco with Alán and the crew was beyond amazing, the trip effortlessly exceeded every expectation I had and then some. Not only were the workshops clear, thoughtful, and informative but without fail they were also full of laughter, encouragement, and validation. Alán is a wonderful instructor and a truly fantastic travel companion and I am so thankful for the experiences I had with our little caravan. I felt seen, safe, and so well cared for throughout every second of the trip and I cannot WAIT for the next opportunity to sketch alongside Alán and a passionate group of strangers once again!

“To Boldly Go !” The main message that I took away with me from Alan’s course was to be bolder : in dimensions , in brush and pen strokes, and in paint with vast swathes of purple washed shadows across the paper . No more miniatures with itsy pencils marks and wishy-washy colours .( Goodbye , Edwardian Gentlewoman!) And , gently , Alan guided us all along this path, so that whether we’re Landscape , Portrait or even potential artists , we have a new confidence in ourselves , and an enthusiasm to put new techniques into practice. Thank you Alan , a difficult task , especially with some of us being so set in our ways , but you achieved it 👏🏼👏🏼

Let’s go sketch! Haven’t sketched in over 10 years and started again during the group trip to Morocco. I tend to box myself in and want to get every detail and make things perfect. However, that took the fun out of everything and kept me from sketching. Alan’s step by step teaching style, patience, and clear direction gave the group amo to tackle different scenes. It was an absolute blast learning watercolor and sketching techniques that loosened me up and gave me the freedom to be creative and let the drawings come to life. Not only was this trip a blast sketching wise, but the support and friendships that were formed in the group will last a lifetime. If you’re hesitant to join a group trip, are afraid of letting the watercolor flow, or if perfectionism is keeping you from creating - stop what you’re doing right now and go sign up for one of Alan’s sketching workshops or group trips! What are you waiting for?! You won’t regret it. I’m looking forward to the next trip I can join. Yallah, yallah!!

We shared a beautiful urban sketching day with Alan in the eternal city, Rome. We went through amazing spots of the historical center, we learned quick sketching tecniches and explored new tools as ink. We had some roman style pizza at very tipical pizzeria and shared some happy hour drinks after the workshop. I am super happy and inspired by the magic of art and the connections with the kind and open minded people from many cities that came just for this experience. Completely recommended. Thank you Alan!

I’ve been following Alán for a long time on Instagram and was happy to be part of his workshop in Andalusia. I never did a group trip before but it was such a good experience. We’ve learned basic skills like 7 minute sketches, sketching with grid to find the right placement and make sure to have space for everything you want to show in your painting, going deeper in perspective, to paint with shadows and how important it is, to not over-work our paintings. I took a lot of good advices with me and will practice it in my daily life. Thank you so much for the experience! Also to be a part of such a supportive, kind group of strangers who have become friends over the week, for the empirical knowledge that you can have a great unique adventure to paint outside while it is raining and to see a lot of beautiful places on top. What a pleasure!
